I was just wondering the kinds of things those of you who have had successful vbac's, put in your birth plans? If you would like to show me them it would be much appreciated. I am writing one up soon..and am going to be giving copies to my ob and mids..and also informing the hospital of certain things. I just wondered what definites I need to help improve my chances of a successful vbac..and also..to help me defend myself with the mids etc at the hospital when the time is right if they try to force me into things i do not want. Many thanks Lisa

Hello - what a great idea to have a birth plan, although I called mine a Birth Wishes List. If you email me at darcatr@optusnet.com.au direct I will attach a copy of it for you if you like. Birthrites have already used it to pass onto some other women as they thought it was pretty good......... but up to you. Happy birthing vibes to you !

Hi : ) A VBAC is like any other birth! If you're choosing to birth in a hospital you have a challenging road ahead of you and I wish you every success with it. Remember if you choose to birth at home with evidence based care and a private midwife, you won't have to fight to birth as you wish. A careprovider with a 75-90% VBAC rate is what you want, any less than that and you need a better careprovider! So make sure you ask all the necessary people what their VBAC rate is.
This is a link to a common hospital VBAC protocol on my website, with the studies I've provided to demonstrate where it is inappropriate. I hope it helps you decide!

Also, you would really benefit from a copy of Henci Goer's "Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth" which goes through the pros and cons of all possible interventions so you can really get to grips with them.
I hope you have a beautiful birth. Don't hesitate to contact me if I can help. Janet sheelnagig@hotmail.com

Hi Janet, Thanks for the info you gave me. I am growing increasingly more confident of a vbac birth the more I hear about my Ob I have chosen..and the more I hear about the hospital I have chosen to. My ob is not knife happy and will only suggest a c/s to me if it completely and utterly necessary. And the mids I have spoken to (and other friends that have had babies there) have all be very pro natural birth. In fact commeneded my choice for vbac. I have considered homebirthing but my husband is 100% not keen on the idea..and besides..only having 12 weeks to go..I think I have left my run a little late. I am happy to labour at home as long as I can and then go in when necessary. In fact am hoping thats how it pans out. I am going to be doing a birth plan to ensure all of my wishes are on there..and handing a copy to my OB and the hospital so everyone is well aware of what I want. I have been doing loads of research and got loads of helpful info from ppl (including yourself) which is helping me remain strong in my choice and remain strong in knowing I can achieve it..and I can have the birth I want..and that cannot be taken from me. I realise when you are birthing a baby..nature can take over..and things can go in a different way to your plans..but I am prepared for anything. I am a big believer in what you put in your mind..you achieve. Therefore I have got it in my mind how I want to have this baby..and I feel that it will happen for me. I know that if things change..then they change for a good reason..but I know what I want and will stick to to. I am going to continue to research it to help my chances more..and frequent this site to check on any new posts and info that comes to light.
Heres hoping it all pans out..and I am sure I will have an amazing birth experience. Thanks once again for your help. Its very much appreciated Lisa 28weeks

Hi Lisa,
I don't know the reason you had your first caesar but mine was for my babe being posterior and well and trully stuck. I thought there was not much I could have done but my midwife (this time around) gave me optimal foetal positioning to read. This all about what you can do in the last 6 weeks to make sure your babe is in the right position. Unknowingly I did everything wrong last time. Sorry I know this is not to do with birth plans but I now think that every pregnant woman should read this book!
good luck with everything! Jennie
