Hello
I'm new and on the search for lots and lots of information. My daughter Matisse was born in Feb of this year, by an "elective" c-section because I had servere pre-eclampsia. She was born 3 weeks early, but was a very healthy 6 pound 11.
I have recently found out that I am about 6 weeks pregnant. We didn't plan to be pregnant so soon, Mati is only 10 months. I am extremly concerned about my health, as the pre-eclampsia did awful things to my liver and I had to have more surgery to repair this in August. My P/E also was detected at 26 weeks, and I've heard that having it so early can increase the risks of getting it again.
My questions are does anyone have any information about pre-eclampsia and pregnancy close together? What do you think my chances for a VBAC are if I do get it again? Also, is having this pregnancy so close to the last one going to be a high risk to my health, and the health of this baby.
I am really worried and have thought about not continuing the pregnancy because of all the risks involved. I'm not sleeping because of the stress it is causing me
Thanks in advance
Willisa

Hi Willisa
I would suggest you speak with your doctor to gain clarification on everything that happened in your previous pregnancy, which may give light to what to expect in this pregnancy.
From the reading I have done so far, I can’t find anything relating PE and time between pregnancies. Delivery of the baby is usually the cure for PE and the symptoms settle down within 48-72 hours, although you have mentioned you had to have further treatment of your liver – I’m not quite sure what surgery you had?
I think the best thing you can do is go and speak to your doctor to discuss the concerns you have and hopefully he/she will have some answers to alleviate your stress about this pregnancy.
Perhaps visit a Naturopath as well to assist in relieving stress/anxiety and adjusting your diet to help reduce the likelihood of PE again.
The research does show a slightly increased risk of uterine rupture when the interval between the caesarean and your next birth is less that 18 months. Really it comes down to what risk you are willing to take, remembering too that 99% of the time women have a normal birth after caesarean.
