Hello,

Am new to this forum and are expecting in July 07. Was wondering if anyone knows of any good Obs in Perth who support VBAC? I'd love to have a VBAC this time round!

Thanks!

Posted on Misty's behalf (at her request):

Depending on your location in Perth you could try Dr Susan Isdale at Joondalup 9400 9877
I am due in Jan 07 and am attempting a VBAC with her support. She delivered our first and I am very comfortable with her. I feel that she will do everything to give me the birth I wish for.

Hi Chloe's Mum

I strongly suggest you get to a Birthrites meeting.
Southern meetings are held at Leeming Family Centre the 1st Friday of the month (next one is Jan 5th).

You can also call me on 9417 7344 to discuss what options are available at the moment. Keing Edward have a fantastic VBAC rate at the moment if you were thinking of public hospital, otherwise there are a few Ob's who are VBAC friendly, depending on where you live.
You may also like to think about the homebirth route. There are also a couple of great independant midwives practicing in the Metro area.

Cheers

Hello!
I'm brand ner here....I am due in February and live in Sydney. I had two very unnecessary cesareans at RPA and no one will touch me to have a VBA2C. Can anyone recommend a hospital or private midwife...I feel like I have some sort of disease rather than a baby growing inside me since receiving the reactions from numerous obs when I tell them I want to trial labour. I have seen there is a meeting on Birthrites for us Sydney-ites in Moore Park but we have just bought all the way out at Campbelltown and the kids dont travel well...is there anyone else nearby??? Thanks for the great site and all the great stories!

Hi Kell

If that's the Birthrites mtg that is titled "Caesareans Incommon" being held in Moore Park then that no longer takes place.

Sorry you had a bad time at RPA the OB i had thru there was very supportive of VBAC - Dr Alex Welsh - but he was in the minority [Frown]

Maybe call some of the Sydney contacts on the Birthrites list and see if they can recommend anywhere

Good luck with it all

Hello,

I finally had my first VBAC after 3 caesareans. My little girl is now 9 months old.

I could not find a private obstetrician in Perth who would let me go into labour naturally let alone let me try for a VBAC. With my second and third caesars my private obstetrician said I could try for a VBAC up until I actually went into labour and then I was really pushed into two repeat caesars.

Fourth time around I had the most wonderful support from Birthrites and the most strong, informed, lovely people at the Birthrites meetings. It would be great if you could make it to a monthly meeting.

Because I could not find a private obstetrician I had to go to King Edward Memorial Hospital where I had my successful VBA3C. Although there was some very strong opposition from some people at KEMH there were also wonderful people who really supported my choices.

Because I knew I had so much opposition (even at KEMH) I also had a private midwife - someone I could trust to tell me the truth - as I had lost faith in medical staff with their own agendas.

I really feel I would have had successful VBAC's with my second and third if I had made the same choices for care that I did the fourth time.

I wish all you strong, brave ladies well and am happy to chat privately if any one wishes.

Heather

Hi Kell and congratulations on choosing evidence based birth. If you contact
me with your email address I can send you a list of midwives all over NSW. I
live in Croydon Park which is about half an hour closer to you than Moore
Park. I lend from my Joyous Birth library and I'm also happy to talk on the
phone to you. We also have a list of doulas which includes some lovely women
not far from you.
VBA2C is just a birth, not a medical emergency. I look forward to chatting
to you soon!

Thanks for your replies ladies.

Penny, I will def get to a birthrites meeting in the new year! [Wink] Thankyou for your info.

Heather, good on you! Glad you got the birth you wanted. [Wink] How does employing a private midwife work? Where did you find yours and what are the appx costs?

Thanks [Smile]

Hi Chloesmum,

I paid $2200.00 to my private midwife. Medibank private do not rebate for private midwifes but HBF will give $1400.00 towards costs. I actually switched health funds when I found this out. Contact Community Midwifery 9339 0021 for some names of midwifes. Talk to a few and find one that suits you. Confirm with your health fund about rebates for your specific midwife.

Hope to see you at a Birthrites meeting although I wont be able to make the January one, but should be at the February one at Leeming.

Good Luck
Heather
