After 23 hours of strong labor, cervadil and pitocin (excuse my spelling please)I still could not dilate past 3cm. During that time, my water had broken, and it was discovered that there was quite a bit of meconium in the amniotic fluid. So, my OB decided to do a c-section. I delivered a healthy baby girl. This was Jan. of 03. I did have quite a bit of bleeding after this c-section, and continued bleeding for 8 weeks. However, I didn't have any problems at all. I healed very quickly, and had very little pain. However, 14 months and 2 weeks later, I scheduled another c-section (with a different ob due to insurance.) Shortly after getting out of the hospital, my pain level was increasing. After two weeks, I went to the ER and discovered that I had an infection in my incision. I took two weeks of antibiotics. However, I continued to have a lot of pain. I returned to my first OB because I wasn't happy with the care I was receiving, and found out that there was a great deal of scar tissue around my incision. The 2nd OB did not cut along the first c-section incision, nor did she remove the scar tissue from the first c-section. The pain continued for about 3-4 months after the delivery. The pain is no longer bad, but the area can still be tender. A few months ago (a little after a year and a half since my last delivery) my daughter was sitting on my belly while I was doing sit ups. All of a sudden I started getting sharp pains along the incision line. I checked out the incision (from my 2nd delivery) and it had gapped open. The gap has since healed. However, I'm now pregnant again. I'm 6 weeks along, and the incision is getting quite tender at this point. I haven't been able to get in to see my OB yet. Will I be able to carry this baby to term without rupturing? I do plan to do another c-section. Also, with both of my children, I went into pre-term labor. It had to be stopped with medication both times. What is causing the increased tenderness? Thank you in advance for any help/advice you may be able to give me.

Hi
I would get it checked out as soon as possible, it is likely just to be harmless adhesions of scar tissue stretching but it could be an ectopic pregnancy which become more likely with every caesar that you have. As you are likely to know ectopic pregnancies are very dangerous. It would be very unlikely, I would think, to be a uterine rupture at this point.
I am now 27 weeks pregnant with my second child after a caesar in 2003, my caesar scar healed very badly with wound breakdown. I had a lot of pain along the scar around 6-8 weeks which eased up. My doctor did sent me for an ultrasound just to make sure it wasn't an ectpic but it was just adhesions which went away.
I hope this helps you, maybe you could just go and see a general doctor for advice.
cheers Jennie

I also had a lot of pain after my emergency caesarean 16 months ago. After the initial healing period (prolonged because of complications) the pain/ discomfort would come and go, sometimes just lasting for a day, other times for a week. Then I would not feel it for a week and I would think "great, it's completely fine now!" I still had some discomfort after a year (not pain, mainly itching and tenderness)but it was definately better than after 6 months. I'm now 22 weeks pregnant and have had on and off pain in my scar which I have been told (by two separate midwives) is completely normal and nothing to be worried about. I also went to see a specialist gyn. a couple of times before I got pregnant because I was worried about the scar but he couldn't find anything wrong. I think it's normal to have discomfort for a long time but if you do get worried or the pain gets worse then I would go and see a doctor. I do understand your fear of the medical profession though - I also had some really bad experiences when my son was born by caesarean and I don't really trust the system any more :-( I hope your scar gets better soon, I know how annoying it can be and I really feel for you.
