I am 9 weeks pregnany and am suffering from constipation. Is it safe to use over-the-counter glycerin suppositories to help?

Thanks

Hi Hexham
You could, but it would be wise to try diet and extra fluids before trying suppositories. Foods like dried figs, apricots, lots of grapes, prunes, and plenty of high fibre foods generally help with constipation, and lots of fluids are a must. By the way, contipation during pregnancy is thought to be an effect of progesterone, one of the placental hormones - it relaxes smooth muscle which is found in the bowel, and in blood vessels, so can cause faintness and dizziness too - usually in the second trimest though. Hope this helps.
