In some ways the fact that you have laboured and birthed vaginally before means that your body knows what to do and your labour will probably be just as fast as any of the other prior ones were.

I have now had two VBACs. My csec was precluded with labour (15hrs) dilated to 7cm, but this labour was induced. With my 1st VBAC I was in labour for 27hrs but the majority of this was primordial not active labour and my active which was only about 5hrs (4/5cm - full).

With the VBAC I just had (Sep) my labour was a complete surprise. It came on very fast and only lasted 4.5hrs from woe to go. It took me by surprise and it is a wonder we made it to the hospital in some respects.

So given this I think prior labour and birth means that you can expect to labour and birth as you have before - and possibly faster!!

Thank you Debbie for answering. I didn't explain myself very well after reading what I had typed.I had been on the web most of the day. My 2nd child was induced 1 hour 15min start to finish took everyone by suprise. 3,4 even faster number 5 20 min if it hadn't been for my leggings I would of had Ausint in the lift. ( we could have been in a movie my husband almost running me in the wheelchair into the kitchen at the hospital ) This is why I'm a little scared if thats the right word what will be asked or throwen at me to do in my case if they the hospital like to monitor the baby or put a drip in. I don't want to be hooked up. I would like to know what they could ask of you to do in this case.

Thankyou Tracy

Ah I am with you now Tracey. In my case I arrived at the hospital a little less than an hour before bubs was born. I had already arranged prior (through my birth plan and some discussion) that I would not be having a drip or bung but had agreed to an initial trace then intermittent monitoring.
As it happened when I got there I stripped off and went straight into the shower. Everything was happening so fast by this stage that the midwife who was delivering me did not even ask for the trace she just did a doppler check and then a couple of contractions later a VE - at which point I was announced 7cm. I then went into the bath where I gave birth to my daughter a few minutes later.
My midwife later told me she was supposed to contact the registrar because I was a VBAC but with everything happening so fast she felt it more important to stay with me than to let some doctor know when there was obviously no problem and the doctor would only have come had there been one.
So basically if it happens that fast - go with the flow - and they probably won't have time to do "anything" to you. Just to be on the safe side if there is stuff you don't want done - eg. the drip then tell them this at an appointment before you go into labour. They cannot force anything on you without your consent and you can withdraw consent at any time including when you are in labour.
(I also did not have a drip with my 1st VBAC in 99)

Debby, Thankyou. You have made a few of my worries a little less. I have asked my doctor if he could put on my chart that when I ring the hospital to say we are coming in that he is called in then .I know from my other children that they don't like doing this but I would like him to be there in case. I'm tired of paying for a doctor who never makes the birth. He said no problem, But couldn't say if the staff would do this or wait untill I came in to check me I can tell them its to late by then. Can you belive that only Number 1 & 6 my cs where there. I have a new doctor with N 6 and this baby he is great. All my worries are from me the need to know of the unknowen really plays on my mind alot. It has been great to message someonelse that understands what I'm saying. I'm alittle tired of people saying things are fine what are you worrying about the babys healthy, just go with the flow. I'm 29 weeks and have found the web birthrites full of information to read without feeling like a crazy women asking to many questions.
Again thankyou Debby, I've just typed away here.
(Sorry for my mistakes on here my 15 year old has not long showed me what to do)
