I still have 4 days to go til my due date and my doctor has said he has no issues with letting me go over a couple of weeks. However after that he is thinking the only thing he can do is break my waters as he doesnt want to leave me to go too over.
And I personally dont want to go much more over that as well for several reasons so 2 weeks over is more than enough for me.

What other methods of induction are considered safe for women who are attempting the VBAC? My doctor will only consider AROM and nothing else. Not even the gel. Is he being a bit unreasonable there or is it just not safe? The reason he said no to the gel was because of him hearing of a few stories in the past few years of the gel being used in vbac's and it has caused a few deaths in babies.

I mean I am not wanting to be induced and hope to god that I don't need to be but just wanted to get some advice.

Also what is the success rate of having your waters broken? If a doctor breaks your waters then is it more common to need more intervention after a few hours or is it more likely that I will go into labour?

Thanks
Lisa

Lisa, I don't know what effects AROM would have. However I think your doctor is good to be ruling out chemical induction - apart from undesirable intervention, apparently there are some studies that suggest it increases the chance of rupture - an OB in melbourne, said to be the guru of natural birth here, told me he does induce VBACs but tells his patients it doubles the chance of rupture. My own OB wouldn't do it for my VBAC although we did not get to that stage as I went into labour at 39 weeks.
In any event, try not to stress about induction at this stage, just work on the basis that you will go into labour yourself. It's good that you're not being pressured.
Best of luck and positive thoughts.

Hi Lisa!

I spoke with my dr about induction in the even that my body wouldn't start labor on its own. She would not do the gel induction either (because of the higher risk of uterine rupture) but she would do a pitocin induction as long as the cervix is ripe. She said that in her experience, the pitocin induction doesn't affect the outcome of the vbac trial as long as your body just needs a little jump start and is truly ready for labor. Have you been keeping up with your hypnobirthing? I would continue to focus on your relaxing techniques and visualize your body starting labor on its own. Good luck and think positive!
