I have just discovered that I am pregnant with my 2nd baby. My 1st baby was born 12 months ago by emergency cs due to meconium in the waters and slow progress during 1st stage of labour (it has to be said I was induced with a drip which I believe caused all the problems) - so no reason why I should not give birth normally this time!! I am determined to do everything I can to prepare my mind and body for a normal birth but without spending the entire pregnancy being obsessed with 'achieving' a vbac and would really like some book recommendations from those of you who have had vbacs or are preparing for one.
Thanks! :-)

Hi Nicola,

I found Optimal Foetal Positioning (in the suggested reading list by Jean Sutton and Pauline Scott) to be really good as a lot of problem in birth are due to the baby positioning are there are things you can do to help make sure your babe is in the right position in the last few weeks of pregnancy.

Silent Knife was a bit dated but good, I was annoyed when reading it that the problems and resulting tramas to women that they had identified over 20 years ago are still happening today.

cheers Jennie

It is absolutely *just* a birth! : ) No study in 20 years has shown ERC to be safer than VBAC so you go for it! Plan a lovely birth!

There are some wonderful books but for uptodate info, the net is best.
Some essential reading however is
"Birthing from Within" Pam England
"Thinking woman's guide to a better birth" Henci Goer
Anything by Michel Odent, Sheila Kitzinger.
Sarah Buckley's new book "Gentle Birth and Gentle Parenting"??? Probably the wrong title! But you can find her at
http://www.sarahjbuckley.com anyway!

There is a brilliant wealth of research on the net from AIMS UK, to the UK Radical Midwives, Gentle Birth archives - all on google! Enjoy! Contact me if you'd like more. My own forums are pretty good too ; )
