Hi,

I had a C-section just over 4 weeks ago. It has been healing well apart from one small section. This was red and I showed it to a clinic nurse who advised to keep it clean & dry but as no swelling or discharge was ok. Last week a red lump developed below the spot and I went to GP who advised was ok but gave me a script for some antibiotics and said if it had not started to get better by the weekend to take them. This was getting better but now today I have a red larger area above the same spot and is a bit sore. I don't want to take the antibiotics as the GP said even though safe during breastfeeding may cause diarrhoea & thrush for my baby. Any suggestions on anything else I can do to help this heal. I have been putting betadine on it day and night.
Thanks Janine. My email address is digandj9@bigpond.com.au

Hi,

I would be concerned. Any redness, especially accompanied by soreness, swelling or discharge, shows that 'something' isn't right - possibly an infection.

I would suggest you go back to your doctor (Ob, or your GP - someone you trust) for advice.

I had a similar problem, and it turned out to be an excess of suture material (about an inch long that hadn't been trimmed, just under my skin sutures) that was aggravating the scarline. Once the suture material was discovered, and trimmed, healing progressed perfectly.

Jackie.
