The Next Birth After Caesarean clinic was established at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth in July 2008. It is a clinic for women with a previous caesarean section who are pregnant with a subsequent child. Women who attend the clinic receive accurate, evidence-based information to allow them to make an informed decision about how their child will be born. The woman is supported in her choice, no matter whether it is for a repeat caesarean or vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC).
The clinic is a collaborative clinic with most of the antenatal care being provided by midwives. The NBAC midwives are well informed about birth after caesarean and empathetic to the needs of women with a previous caesarean. Women see an obstetrician twice during the pregnancy. This may increase if issues arise during the pregnancy that are outside the scope of midwifery care.
Women need a GP referral to book in to the clinic. The number of the clinic is (08) 9340 1626.
